The Nine Month Couch

Yes, sofas now take as long to arrive as a human child.

It’s the same story almost everywhere: supply disruptions and labor shortages meet surging demand; infuriating delays ensue. But the waits are even longer for couches, reports House Beautiful, because most have to be assembled to order from far-flung fabric and lumber mills disrupted by the pandemic. On top of that, every domestic producer of the substance that makes couches comfy — furniture foam — was knocked out by the ice storm that hit Texas in February. Curbed recommends buying furniture directly from vintage specialists on Instagram, and even created a whole guide on how to slip into that seller’s DMs. Desperate times…

Finally, Architectural Digest says that built-in sofas are “having a moment”, at least amongst people ready to commit to one couch forever. Maybe it is time to settle down?
